Completing your Self Assessment of Service Statement (SASS): Adult care homes, children’s homes and domiciliary care agencies

How to complete your SASS if you run an adult care home, children’s home or a domiciliary care agency.

If you run an adult care home, a children’s home or a domiciliary care agency you are required to complete and submit a focused SASS using CSSIW Online (External link). You have until 15 November to complete and submit your SASS.

The Responsible Individual or Registered Person must complete the SASS. If your service(s) has more than one Responsible Individual or Registered Person, you should agree on one individual to complete and submit the SASS on behalf of the service(s).

You will need to complete the SASS regardless of whether your service is operating.

Regulation and Inspection of Social Care (Wales) Act 2016

This is the first step as part of the transition process of the Regulation and Inspection of Social Care (Wales) Act 2016 which will come into effect from April 2018.

If you intend to continue to provide a care service after April 2018, you will need to re-apply for registration under the Act. More information about re-registration is available on our ‘Re-registration’ page.

  • Before you start

Before completing your SASS you should read:

    • Re-registration guidance

  • Complete your SASS using CSSIW Online

You will need to be registered with CSSIW Online (External link).

If you already have a CSSIW Online account

If you already have an account you will be able to use this to log in and access your form.

If you do not have a CSSIW Online account

If you are a new user then you will need to set up an account.
To do this, you will need to have:

    • A valid email address
    • Your activation PIN found in your letter we have sent you
    • We will also ask you some security questions when you register

Once you have set up your online account, please keep your login details safe (user name and password) for future online services and to access your submitted SASS and details.

  • Can I use the SASS to notify changes to my service?

No, SASS does not replace the need to notify us or submit changes about your registration. All notifications and variations should be submitted through the normal process.

  • Why do we need this information?

    We need this information to:

    • confirm that your registration details are current and correct; and
    • find out how you intend to register under the new law in April 2018.

  • How we use this information

We will use this information to prepare for implementation of the Regulation and Inspection of Social Care (Wales) Act by confirming registration details are current and correct. This will enable us to identify any inaccuracies now and address these before the transition process for the Act.

We will not hold you to the information about how you intend to register your service under the Act, as we understand that this may be liable to change. However, it will provide us with a better understanding of the types of applications we may receive in February 2018 and assist us with our planning.
