Guidance about smoking and associated risks in a care home.

We have produced brief guidance about risks associated smoking in a residential care service.

Residential care homes are exempt from smoke-free legislation.

Although it is not a legal requirement, designated indoor smoking rooms or bedrooms can be made available for use by residents wishing to smoke indoors.

It is important that both the health risks and fire risks associated with smoking to those receiving care and support and those providing it are assessed and mitigated.

More information and guidance for those who provide care is available on our ‘Risks associated with smoking in a care service’ page.
